Nunn and his masterful team brilliantly transition the stage performance to an outstanding film that looks as though it was written for the camera. His starting point was a desire to deal with the issue of anti-Semitism: ".. I wanted to show why Shylock acts as he does. To de-villainise and de-demonise him is very important," says Nunn, calling Merchant of Venice "a masterpiece about human behavior in extremis."
