Summary: September 5, 1972. In Munich, West Germany, it was the second week of the Summer Games; an "Olympics of serenity" which the Germans hoped would eclipse the memory of the Nazis' 1936 Berlin Olympics. On that day, however, an international television audience watched a real-life drama unfold in real time as a group of Palestinian terrorists murdered two Israeli Olympians and held nine more as hostages for 21 hours. The world became both smaller and bleaker, because the Germans managing Olympic security had no guards around the compound, no trained anti-terrorist squad, no contingency plans, not even effective communication--which eventually led to a bloody firefight at a military airport and the massacre of the hostages. Using a conventional blend of new interviews and archival film and videotape, the film brings fresh reporting to the screen.
Item Description: DVD-video, Region 1, Dolby digital 2.0 Surround, widescreen presentation aspect ratio 1.78:1; digitally mastered audio & anamorphic video.
Narrator, Michael Douglas. ; editor, Justine Wright ; cinematography, Alwin Küchler, Neve Cunningham ; special stills photography, Raymond Depardon ; original music, Alex Heffes.
Originally produced as a documentary motion picture in 1999.
Special features: Talent file [text feature] ; Weblinks [requires a DVD-ROM drive and Internet access].
