Geological Survey (U.S.) Colorado Plateau; Montrose County (Colo.) 1953 September 1953-09 The Spring Creek Mesa area is adjacent to Uravan, Montrose County, Colo. and includes Atkinson Breaks, Hog; Point, Blue Springs Point, and Spring Creek Mesa. The area is bounded by the San Miguel bench along the western and southern sides and is accessible by two unimproved roads which leave Colorado Highway 141 at points half a mile north and 2 miles northwest of Uravan, Colo. The explored part of the area includes parts of secs, 1, 2, 10-15, 22-28, 35, and 36, T. 48 N., R. 17 W., New Mexico principal meridian. The area explored is public land except for six privately mined claims. To date there has been no production of uranium or vanadium ores from the area. From July 11, 1951, to August 14, 1953., the U. S. Geological Survey conducted diamond-drill exploration in the Spring Creek Mesa area. The purpose of this exploration was to find uranium deposits that might make new mines and to appraise the uranium reserves of the area. This report summarizes the preliminary results of this exploration. The geology of the Spring Creek Mesa area has been described previously (Eicher, 1953).
