To outline the changes in the ownership of such areas from any desired starting point to the present time requires a treatment immensely less than a complete history of Europe and America for five hundred years or more, something a little more than a simple list of the treaties that have in the main evidenced the conveyances from one nation to another. This writing is in fact basically a review of four discourses that have dealth with the lines that have separated the lands of adjacent sovereignties in the area mentioned, and have treated generally the same subject matter with the same general approach. To bring to public attention the latest of the four, a court decision, is perhaps the chief excuse for a further review of the background history. | ||
